The exhibition marks the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, and the museum will be displaying twelve of his finest drawings as part of #Leonardo500 – a national celebration of one of history’s greatest geniuses.
The drawings are from the Royal Collection which contains the world’s finest collection of Leonardo’s works.
In February 2019, a total of 144 of Leonardo’s exquisite drawings will be on show simultaneously at twelve venues across the United Kingdom, including Bristol Museum & Art Gallery.
These exhibitions will be followed by major displays at The Queen’s Galleries in Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
The works have been selected to show the extraordinary scope of the artist’s interests, from painting and sculpture to engineering, zoology, botany and anatomy, as well as his use of different media – pen and ink, red and black chalks, watercolour and metal point.
These drawings are among the most diverse and technically accomplished in the history of art, and Clifton High School is delighted to be sponsoring such a prestigious and unique event.
