HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT US
As we approach our 150th anniversary in 2027, we feel it
is the perfect time to reflect on our evolution and to
reimagine the possibilities of the future.
We wish to celebrate our pioneering history,
whilst continuing to offer an outstanding and
enriching learning experience for generations to come.
FUNDING THE FUTURE
INCREASING OUR BURSARY SUPPORT
For us, belonging within our community essentially requires a love of learning. We have worked hard to open our School gates to families with a thirst for education, irrespective of their financial circumstances. Our belief, in the importance of accessibility and inclusivity has and always will be, woven into the fabric of our School.
Our 150th Anniversary Appeal aims to Fund the Future by supporting the School’s Bursary Programme, increasing access to pupils from across the Bristol area.
INVESTING IN OUR SCIENCE FACILITIES
Science is a discipline in which our pupils excel. in 1905 we pioneered one of the first chemistry laboratories for girls and have continued investing funds every 50 years to add additional capacity. Despite aesthetic improvements, the last major rebuild was in 1978. when the Senior School was a girls-only environment.
Our 150th Anniversary Appeal aims to Fund the Future by investing in our current science facilities, introducing two new state-of-the-art laboratories, including a space to inspire our youngest learners.
LEAVING A GREENER SCHOOL
Our pupils remain empathetic to a world beyond our School gates. As a School, we are acutely aware, more than ever before, of the need to care and protect our planet in order to meet our environmental, ethical and social responsibilities.
Our 150th Anniversary Appeal aims to Fund the Future by leaving a greener School for future generations by improving our estate and introducing new facilities across the campus.
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Clifton High School was founded in 1877 by the first Headmaster of Clifton College, John Percival, whose wish was for his only daughter Bessie to be educated. As Clifton College was steadfastly a male-only environment, he joined forces with like-minded visionaries to create a girls' school. Our School was incorporated on the 12th September 1877, first opening its doors at 65 Pembroke Road on 24th January 1878, before moving to the current site in January 1898. Today, we are a thriving co-educational School consisting of approximately 800 pupils aged 3-18 years.
Clifton High School's historical foundation does not derive from a generous endowment or legacy, but the simple will of a few people to provide a first-class education. The initial expenses of the School were met by issuing 200 shares at £20 each (approximately £2,000 today), the shareholders gaining no dividend, instead earning the right to nominate a pupil to Clifton High School.
