A-Level Results Day 2020

Results day at Clifton High School

A-Level Results, Class of 2020
A-Level Results, Class of 2020
This morning, A level Results Day 2020, was a truly extraordinary and emotional occasion. Unfortunately, with the examinations being cancelled the day did not take place as we imagined and hoped. While there was much to celebrate, the culmination of their years at Clifton High and enduring hard work, was unjustly reflected in these circumstances.

A good number of our students today received the grades they deserved, sadly and importantly others did not. The majority have secured a place at their first-choice university, for which they deserve every congratulation from the whole school community, their family and friends. Each and every student merits significant praise and admiration for their mature attitude, academic performance and composure. They have continually shown these attributes throughout their studies, and particularly at this unprecedented time.

The academic results, this year more than any other, should not solely determine or underpin their futures. The resilience and approach each have shown in recent months and especially today, is a testament to their strength of character and their individual brilliance.

For those whose A level grades have been subject to the unfair flaws of this year’s system and did not receive the grades that they expected, as ever, the School is unreservedly committed to help and support these students.
For most of these students, today would have been their last day at Clifton High. This is not, however, the end of their enduring connection with the School, which for a good number in this year group began as early as our Nursery and Reception classes. The relationships based on trust and open channels of communications between each student, the staff, Head of Sixth Form and myself, are formed in School, and continue into life beyond Clifton High.

The Class of 2020, and we their School and families, as their biggest champions, have much to be proud of. As well as their A level results, each student leaves Clifton High with a toolkit of skills and personal qualities that are as important as academic qualifications and will serve them well in life beyond School. Their many other achievements during their time at Clifton High should also be noted and fondly remembered, from Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, School Productions and World Challenge expeditions to Young Enterprise, outstanding sporting accolades and the exemplary ambassador roles they assumed in School and the wider community.

Dr Allison Neill, Head of School, said: “The High School Staff and I wish each and every one of these wonderful young people good health, happiness and every success in life. We ask the whole school community to raise a glass to them all. They are true role models to the younger pupils of our School, and have enriched Clifton High by their presence; we shall miss them enormously.”
