Our 2023 Year 13 students have, once again, achieved an outstanding array of A level examination results. Most notably, we saw record-breaking A*-A grades, with almost half of all students, 48%, achieving these grades. This bucks the national trend in England, where A*-A grades have declined to 26.5%.
2023 saw Clifton High Sixth Form students undertaking examinations in a record number of twenty-five subjects. Whilst the preparation and results are more comparative to pre-pandemic years, we cannot be complacent that these are the first series of public examinations this year group have completed, due to COVID restrictions throughout their GCSE studies. Their admirable performances and results are a true testament to their hard work and commitment.
One third of our Year 13 students achieved at least three A* - A grades and overall, more than a quarter of students exceeded their expected grades in all subjects by an average of at least one grade. As in previous years, our students continue to exceed expectations on their base line predictions, maintaining Clifton High School’s trend of significant added value. Specific subjects also saw great success with 100% of English Literature, Further Mathematics, Chinese and Art students achieving an A*-A. Additionally in History, German, Photography and Music, 100% of students received grades A*-B, 79% of all grades awarded in Mathematics and Further Mathematics were A*-A, 80% of Chemistry results were A*-A and 93% of Biology grades were A*-B.
In addition to A level subjects, many students undertook the Extended Project Qualification (a research and presentation module that equates to half an A level) whereby almost 60% of these students received a grade A*-A.
Miss Katherine Rich, Head of Sixth Form said: “I am delighted with the achievements of this year group, within which there are some extraordinary individual successes to celebrate. As a cohort they have truly outdone themselves. We wish them every success in their exciting next chapters beyond Clifton High Sixth Form.”
The vast majority of students have secured their first-place higher education destination. The range of subjects and vocations our students will pursue now is vast and reflective of how dynamic and impressive they are as a group. One of our students has accepted a place studying Biomedical Sciences at St Anne’s College, Oxford, whilst others will study Medicine, Product Design, Art Foundation, Actor Musicianship and History to name but a few and several have accepted scholarships at top universities.
Huge congratulations to the Class of 2023 and we look forward to hearing about their future successes and welcoming them back to School as Clifton Rosarians.
